Summary
Suhash Chandra Dutta Roy earned his BSc (Hons) in Physics (1956), MSc (Tech) in Radio Physics and Electronics (1959), and DPhil degree (1965) all from the University of Calcutta. He worked as Research Officer (Electronics) at the River Research Institute, West Bengal (WB) for two years, before joining the University of Kalyani, as a lecturer. He was Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota (1965-68) before he joined IIT, Delhi as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. He was promoted to Professor in 1970 and served as the Head of the Department as well as Dean of Undergraduate Studies. On sabbatical leave from IIT Delhi, he spent a year at the University of Leeds and another year at the Iowa State University. After retirement in 1998, he continued at IIT Delhi, first as an Emeritus Fellow, then as INSA Senior Scientist, and currently as an INSA Honorary Scientist. He teaches a course every semester and continues his research on circuits, systems and signal processing.

Academic and Research Achievements: Dutta Roy's initial research concerned lumped and distributed networks and transistor circuits, with particular reference to IC implementation. At Minnesota, he worked on active RC filters, and continued working in the same field after return to India, with particular emphasis on economic inductor simulation and low sensitivity circuits. With fast developments in technology during mid seventies, his research interests gradually shifted to signal processing both analog and digital, with a heavy tilt towards digital signal processing (DSP). He has written three book chapters and published 245 research papers in IEEE and other professional journals of repute. He is the holder of one US and three Indian Patents and is the author of five full semester video courses which are used widely in India. He has mentored thirty PhD students.

Other Contributions: Professor Dutta Roy has been associated with a number of national organizations like the Science and Engineering Academies. He has made significant contribution to modernization of curriculum, assessment of faculty, etc. He has been on the Editorial Boards of several national and international journals including IEEE.

Awards and Honours: Professor Dutta Roy is a Fellow of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad, Acoustical Society of India and Systems Society of India. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). His other honours and awards include the SS Bhatnagar Award, Vikram Sarabhai Award, OP Bhasin Foundation Award, Jawaharlal Nehru Award, Syed Hussain Zaheer Medal (1992) and Dr Guru Prasad Chatterjee Memorial Lecture (2009) of INSA, Ram Lal Wadhwa Gold Medal and Meghnad Saha Award of the IETE and the UGC National Lectureship.
